Negligence Lawsuit based on Prenatal Medical Malpractice Settles for $2.5M

A prenatal negligence lawsuit has just settled for $2.5 million. The lawsuit was filed after an Ohio woman gave birth to a child who was born with severe brain damage and cerebral palsy. According to the lawsuit Marquietta Nored, an inmate in an Ohio prison, failed to receive appropriate prenatal care while institutionalized.

If you believe that your child may have sustained a birth injury as the result of negligent prenatal care, it is important to speak to a San Diego birth injury attorney right away. An experienced birth injury lawyer can obtain the necessary medical records and begin an investigation into the circumstances surrounding potential medical malpractice.

Here, the lawsuit alleged that the woman suffered from high blood pressure throughout her pregnancy and was diagnosed with eclampsia on the day of her delivery. Eclampsia is a serious and potentially fatal condition for both mother and child and can lead to children being born with serious birth injuries.

According to the negligence suit, the woman failed to receive prenatal care for the final 11 weeks of her pregnancy. As a result, doctors failed to monitor her condition and take potential action to prevent the birth injury from occurring, and/or reduce the severity and improve the child's outcome. While the prison hospital failed to admit responsibility, it agreed to the settlement. The funds will be used to help defray the costs of lifetime care for the child.
