Medical Errors Lead to Negligence Lawsuit

Medical Errors Lead to Negligence Lawsuit

A recently filed medical malpractice lawsuit highlights the life long harm that can occur when medical errors occur.

The case involved a patient who was admitted to the hospital in 2013 with a fistula and bowel obstruction. According to the medical malpractice lawsuit, during the course of his stay the man was given oxygen and received Dilaudid per PCA pump. He continued to complain of weakness and not being able eat, and started exhibiting symptoms of an altered state. He was transferred to the ICU, and ultimately discharged from the hospital. However, upon discharge the man was diagnosed with brain damage as the result of the Dilaudid he had been receiving, the medical negligence lawsuit states.

Among the allegations include complaints that the hospital was negligent in failing to monitor the patient, that it failed to seek an order for continuous pulse oximetry and failed to properly take vital signs and failed to properly program the PCA pump.

The lawsuit seeks damages to cover a lifetime of medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering.

Medical malpractice can take many forms, and victims of medical errors may suffer for a lifetime.
