Lawsuit Filed For Delayed Diagnosis

Lawsuit Filed For Delayed Diagnosis

Legal news reports that woman has filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against a California hospital stemming from the death of her father. In the wrongful death complaint, she asserts that doctors at the Alta Bates Summit Medical Center failed to timely diagnose her fathers severe infection - which led to sepsis, and his ultimate death. Had the proper diagnosis been made, she asserts, he could have received the proper medical care and had survived. Instead, he died in a painful death after having suffered for many hours.

The first step in providing care to a patient is making an appropriate and timely diagnosis. Making a proper diagnosis early on is often the key to treating a patient, and improving a patient's odds at a full recovery. In some situations, the timing of the diagnosis may not have changed the course or outcome of a situation. However in others, where the failure to diagnose and treat a condition initially leads to preventable harm, it may be able to file a medical malpractice lawsuit based on a a delay of diagnosis.
